Sandra was the first female purchased in the Clonagh herd, purchased at the RDS Spring 1989 with a heifer calf at foot, Clough Winnie. Sandra has numerous daughters and grandaughters still breeding exceptionally within the herd. The top Sandra progeny with females still in the herd include Clonagh Fiona, Clonagh Helen and Clonagh Hisolda
Helen wass a Hillcrest Butcher daughter of Clough Sandra. She has been a prolific bull breeder throughout her time in Clonagh. Her top progeny have included:
- Clonagh Topper, champion at both society premier sales in 2007. Exported to Northern Ireland €4,050
- Clonagh Valerie, reserve female champion Premier show and sale Roscommon spring 2008 selling for €5,000
Her granddaughter, Clonagh Trixie Kitty by Raceview King has proved to be a super breeding cow crossing exceptionally well with Banwy T-Rex. Her first daughter Clonagh Beauty was sold privately still on the cow to the Mohona herd. Second daughter, Clonagh Cutie Trixe was exported to the Bavington herd of JJ & JM Sanders, Northumberland, UK.
Clonagh Dora the Explorer is the most successful show female born in to the family to date having won her National titles in 2013, 2014 and 2016 as well as being the Overall Simmental of the Year 2014 and 2016. She is also proving to be an excellent breeding cow with her first calf Clonagh Horny Tiger G winning his National title as well as topping the bull trade at the Premier Sale in Roscommon in autumn 2016 selling for €5,000 and being tapped forward Junior Bull Champion on the day. She has since had a stunning Kilbride Famr Dragoon daughter who will be retained.
Hisolda was a Ballybane Edward daughter of Clonagh Annie. She was an excellent female producing cow.
She was consistent breeder every year breeding bulls such as Clonagh Cha Ching pictured right. His full brother Clonagh Dynamo Star was sold for €3,400 at the society sale in Tullamore April 2013.
We currently have one daughter left in the herd, Clonagh BeeBee. Her daughter, Clonagh Honey Bee was Weanling Heifer Champion at the Autumn Premier sale 2016 selling for €5,400.
Our favourite Hisolda daughter was Rubystar who we unfortunately lost last year. She was shown as a heifer and proved a great breeding cow to date. Her first bull by Monaduff Legend, Clonagh Banagher’s Star was sold at the Tullamore society sale in May 2011 for €4,000. Clonagh Emerald Rubystar was female champion Tullamore society sale 2014. Clonagh Flashy Rubystar was National February calf champion Strokestown 2014 and was retained. Her last daughter Clonagh Glitzy Rubystar was reserve female chmapion at the Premier Spring sale in Roscommon 2016 selling for €5,500.
Fiona was a big Gretnahouse Supersonic cow out Clonagh. Predominately a bull breeder she only ever bred two daughters, one of which remains in the herd today.
Tilly Fiona is the only ET heifer out of Clonagh Fiona by Dovefields Gallant. Although not show as a calf, she made her debut at Enniscorthy Show in 2008 claiming the overall breed title and reserve interbreed champion. Later in the year she was awarded the reserve National Intermediate Heifer at the National Finals at Limerick Show.
Her first calf “Clonagh Accident” (above) by Clonagh Vom Vumb was Reserve National Ploughing Bull Champion 2010. Her next bull “Clonagh Bartman” by Carnkern Titan was retained as a junior herd sire and has since bred National Weanling bull champion Clonagh Edel’s Stuff Muffin exported to UK. Her 2011 bull “Clonagh Challenger Rex” by Banwy T-Rex as the first bull to be sold off farm in autumn 2012. Clonagh Dancing T was National Weanling Bull Champion at the National Livestock Show Tullamore 2013 and sold to the Williams herd, UK. She finally gave us a daughter by T-Rex, the aptly name Fiona Tilly who has been retained as well as a twin daughter by Kilbride Farm Dragoon. Her latest bull, “Clonagh Hard Man” was National Junior Bull Champion Tullamore Show 2017.
