We are honoured to present these fifteen elite females for the Premier sale as a celebration of thirty years of breeding Simmental cattle. These ladies are the cream of the crop from 2018 and 2019 consisting of three national champions including this year Overall Simmental of the Year, Clonagh Jubilant Fabulous. To the best of our knowledge an animal of this title has never been offered at a sale. These are heifers we would normal not offer for sale and of course love to retain them but we are celebrating thirty years and we would love to think that in thirty years these bloodlines will still be in the back breeding of the next generation of Simmental breeders.
The eagle eyed among you will note two ladies not put forward. Unfortunately, a week after winning her National title at Strokestown we lost Clonagh Kiana Miss Joan, a stunning young Dragoon heifer with a bright future ahead of her. Our National Senior Heifer Champion, Clonagh Jenny Fabulous unfortunately lost her calf and did not hold to her first service after so will not be scanned in calf in time for sale so therefore is not being put forward. As the saying goes, “Livestock, deadstock and it would never happen to a bad one!”
Some of these ladies go back to our original purchases Clough Sandra and Clonaslee Wanda both of whom were instrumental in the success of the herd. Seabank Rosebud was also among one of our original purchases and still very active in the herd today. We have purchased few females over the past 15 years, Milton Senorita obviously being one of the luckiest animals we have purchased and the highest grossing single female. Corlesmore Willow and Rose were purchased privately in 2013 and left us a lot of females, four proven females were purchased at the Knockane sale in 2015 and Curaheen Gloria P was purchased at the Curaheen Dispersal in 2016.
It is often advice we give to new breeders when looking to start your herds, all you need is that one good female from a proven line and the herd will build itself.
We are strong believers in BULL POWER! There is a saying that a bull is “half your herd” they can make you are break you. We have been blessed with the success of Banwy T-Rex both on his own progeny visual, functionally and now how they are breeding. His daughters gelled tremendously with Kilbride Farm Dragoon adding a big sea of red to our line up which was a bonus. We are delighted to now see Dragoon daughters making their make on the herd and continuing to click with Bruchag Glenfiddich and now Manor Park Hansome.
Over the past 30 years we have had many highs and lows but we’ll not dwell on the latter. We are well known for bringing out “the army” to shows and sales, long days and short nights but worth every second. Two main highlights for us were Roscommon Premier Spring Sale 2018, winning all three championships, “the hattrick” with our Dragoon progeny and setting a new herd record of €12,500. Our other highlight came just this year at the National Livestock show, winning eight national titles, Overall and Reserve Overall in both the male and female sections but most notably the honour of having the entire senior female line up of our five ladies, a testament to the females produced in our herd.
We would urge any prospective buyers to visit our website www.clonaghherds.com to view details of all lots and their ancestry.
Simmental cattle brought us together, next to our children and our families they are the loves of our lives. We hope that these girls and their future progeny can give as much satisfaction to their new owners as they have to us for many years to come.
