Matador leads the troops at 50th Anniversary Premier sale

The Clonagh herd had another memorable day at the Irish Simmental 50th Anniversary Premier Sale in Roscommon with both our homebred and semen sales progeny excelling in the show and sales rings.

Topping our day and the sale itself was the Senior Male Champion, Clonagh Matador selling for €18,000 after a flurry of ringside, online and phone bids. The winning bid went to the Crudie Farm Company, Angus, Scotland. Matador is a Manor Park Hansome son out of a Kilbride Dragoon cow, Clonagh Helen of Troy. Helen of Troy is a half sister to our National Champion cow, Dora the Explorer This boy had big boots to fill being a 3/4 brother to last years €52,000 record breaker, Clonagh Lucky Explorer and he certainly didn’t disappoint. We wish the Crudie Farm Company ever success with him and look forward to following his progress in the herd.

Clonagh Matador

Of our seven bulls forward on the day the six Manor Park Hansome sons found homes selling for an average of €6250.

Topping our trade after the excitement of Matador was Clonagh Meya Hansome, a third prizewinner to our champion selling for €4.200. He is out of a Banwy T-Rex dam, Clonagh Hippy Willow going back to Corlesmore Willow.

Next up at €4,000 was Clonagh Meyallic selling to William Clarke Livestock, Norfolk, UK where he will follow in the footsteps of their previous sires, Clonagh Diehard Gallant ET and Clonagh Dancing T. Meyallic is a son of Milton Francesca, a Rosten Barney cow full sister to Milton Senhorita.

Also at €4,000 was Clonagh Magnum Fabulous selling to Dovea. He is out of a Kilbride Farm Dragoon daughter, Clonagh Glamorous Fabulous going back to our leading lady, Clonagh Absolutely Fabulous.

Selling at €3,800 was Clonagh Major Fabulous a son of our much admired Clonagh World Class show heifer, Clonagh Jenny Fabulous.

Our youngest bull of the day sold for €3,500 was Jennalyn Mr. Magoo. He is out of a Banwy T-Rex cow, Jennalyn Flora Nora.

A real highlight of our day was seeing progeny of our stock bulls and some females previously sold at Premier sales excelling in both the show and sale rings – good to note the bulls producing the goods not just in our herds but for others as well, a testament to our choice of herd sire.

With no heifers forward at the sale ourselves we were delighted to see Kilbride Farm Dragoon daughters winning 3 out of the 5 female championships with one of them topping a class of 21 heifers and topping the female trade on the day! Congratulations to all of our stock and semen clients.
